Journey From Lhasa |
| From Lhasa to Kathmandu,
this overland journey is a perfect introduction
to the mysteries of Tibet, amidst a backdrop of
unparalleled scenery. |
This fascinating journey to the
Roof of the World begins with a memorable flight over
the Himalaya to Gongkar Airport followed by a scenic
drive to the holy city of Lhasa. We spend the next two
days visiting the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Norbulingkha
and the Sera Monastery. We will have time for bargaining
at the colourful Barkhor Square market and exploring
the side streets of Lhasa.
The first day of our overland journey takes us to Gyantse
with its cobbled street and impressive monastery and
fort. Next, we arrive in Shigatse, Tibet’s second
largest city where we visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, seat
of the Panchen Lamas, featuring golden rooftops and
priceless treasures. Our next day takes us over two
mountain passes as we approach the town of Shegar where
we get our first panoramic views of Everest. On our
final day, we cross the border to Nepal and finish our
journey with a scenic drive to Kathmandu.
