| Your Sherpa
guide will give you an inside look at one of the world’s
most famous mountain cultures. Helambu lies to the north
of Kathmandu and offers a unique experience of Sherpa
culture without going to the Everest region. The Sherpa
village of Tarke Ghyang, charming home to farmers and
yak herders forms the focus of Helambu. Helambu is an
instant Himalayan trek for those with limited time;
combining tremendous cultural interaction with a scenic
walk. This trek is an easy and enjoyable pace at an
average altitude of 3500m.
The trip starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to
Sundarijal. We go via a south ridge through Sermathang,
the down to Melamchi, the site of an amazing mega-project
to bring drinking water to Kathmandu via a series of
tunnels. The trek takes you through Thadepati to Tarke
Ghyang, winding your way through beautiful mountain
scenery. We then conclude with a leisurely drive down
to Kathmandu via Panchkhal after a restful night’s
camp at Melamchi Bridge.
