Airline Services in Nepal
There are eight domestic flight carriers
operating scheduled flights to almost 44 districts of
the Kingdom. Today it is possible to reach to most of
the tourist destinations in Nepal, from the remote airfields
to major hub cities by air and this facility has greatly
enhanced the tourism industry. The step taken by the
Government of Nepal by adopting an open sky policy allowing
the private airlines to step in the domestic air service
front has strengthened the development of at least the
tourism sector.Pokhara, Jomsom, Bharatpur, Lukla, Nepalgunj
– these are some of the major tourist destinations
in Nepal easily accessible by domestic flights.
POKHARA
35 minutes flight away from
Kathmandu is the second popular tourist destination
in Nepal which is also known as Nepal’s adventurous
center. It is the gateway to Annapurna Sanctuary and
most of the popular trekking and rafting destination
starts from this very scenic and enchanting city. All
the tourists simply fall in love at first sight with
Pokhara that offers every beautiful thing in its most
natural form from the magnificent mountains to the serene
lakes.
JOMSOM
The remote village of Sherchans is
20 minutes flight away from Pokhara. Jomsom is also
a gateway to Mustang. Jomsom trek is quite popular amongst
the tourists. It begins with an elevation of 900m from
Pokhara through Kali Gandaki river to an altitude of
3800m, the pilgrim site of Muktinath temple where people
from both Buddhist and Hindu religion gather to take
a holy bath in the ice cold water. Kagbeni is another
popular trekking destination which is linked with Mustang
region. Like in any other trekking areas, a tourist
requires to obtain a special permit to trek around this
region too.
BHARATPUR
is just 20 minutes flight away from
Kathmandu. It is the nearest access point from Royal
Chitwan National Park, the reserve of endangered Royal
Bengal Tiger and Great One-Horned Rhinoceros. Chitwan,
which means “in the heart of the jungle”,
used to be a Royal hunting region and it became Nepal’s
first national park in 1973 and the park was declared
World Heritage site in 1984 by UNESCO.
LUKLA
that lies in the heart of the Everest
trekking areas is just 35 minutes flight away from Kathmandu.
Not only the Mt. Everest but Lukla is a gateway to Sagarmatha
National Park and starting point to many other famous
Himalayan peaks. Lukla with an altitude of 9,000 feet
(2743m) lies in the khumbu region. The moment you land
up in Lukla, you will smell Everest as you feel every
other tourist following the trekking route are about
to scale the Mt. Everest and you will be simply carried
away by the mesmerizing views of snow clad peaks welcoming
you.
NEPALGUNJ
situated 65 minutes flight away from
Kathmandu is the gateway to west Nepal. It also falls
on route to Royal Bardia National Park and Dolpo/Phuksundo
National Park. Nepalgunj is the major commercial city
in the western region and popular treks to Dolpa, Jumla,
Rara Lake and Mount Kailash beings from here. Summer
is quite dry with flies and leeches and winter is cold
with snowfall in the western region of Nepal.
